Some of you are aware that we have been having meetings with the health department facilities committee for the last couple of months on issues surrounding the one room birthing center. The issue was raised by some of the employees in the maternal child health division of the health department. Their desire was to see one room birthing centers closed down because these maternal child health employees believe that they are dangerous to mothers and babies (no matter what statistics and information we have to prove otherwise). The outcome was a shockingly happy one! The vote today was to rewrite birthing center rule to make sure that the one room birthing center remains a legal option without licensing. That gives us some time to regroup and try for rule writing to make licensing an option for the future. We appreciate your support and prayers in our behalf. So until the 2011 legislative session . . .
